DELIVERY ROUTE

What can a delivery captain help with?

  • Vessel relocation: Move a sailboat or powerboat to a new marina, home port or destination country.
  • Route and weather planning: Plan the passage around the vessel’s capabilities, route restrictions and suitable weather windows.
  • Onboard training: Ask whether an owner can travel with the captain to learn boat handling and systems during the delivery.
  • Crew planning: Identify whether the passage calls for a captain, mate or deckhands, and agree who will arrange them.

What should I budget?

Published examples from delivery companies put captain fees around $400–$800+ per day and additional crew around $150–$300 per person per day. These are examples from other operators, not a quote or guaranteed rate from Delivery Captains. Your captain’s proposal may differ with the boat, route, credentials, number of crew and schedule.

Ask for a written estimate that separates captain and crew fees from fuel, dockage, provisions, flights and ground transportation. Clarify whether preparation, travel and weather or mechanical delay days are billable before the trip starts.
