Before the boat leaves the dock
- Review each candidate's current credential, references and experience with comparable vessels.
- Discuss the route, weather windows, crew, reporting and who can authorize repairs.
- Agree on the captain's fee, travel, fuel, dockage and other expenses in a written contract before departure.
Verify each candidate's active credential, relevant experience, references and insurance independently. Confirm the responsibilities of the owner, captain and any crew in a written delivery agreement.
